Eleven year old Jonah has been assigned his job in his community, he has been chosen to be the next Receiver of Memory, a special job in his community that no one besides the Elders know about his role. The communities are places with out war, pain, death and starvation. Every one in the community embraces and follows the rules, it is a community with out privacy, and why would they need it? They all fallow the rules and have no need to hid everything. In the community jobs are assigned for life, and as well as marriages and having children assigned to them, are chosen by the Elders. But during Jonah's training to become the next Receiver of Memory, he receives memories of the world, and how it was before the communities, times of peace, joy and love. But also terrible memories of pain and death. Join Jonah as he finds out what the world should be like, and the evil behind what seems good in his life.

The Giver was a great book and movie. The movie was pretty true to the book, adding an ending that wasn't in the book. But all in all The Giver was a pretty good movie, well worth the theater price, and I will be getting it once it is released to DVD. Don't get me wrong I was a little disappointed that they left out some unimportant details. Such as, Jonah's friends didn't get the jobs they did in the book and random stuff like that. But overall it was a great experience. Me and a couple friend wen't to the Midnight premier of The Giver and were surprised to find that only one other person was sharing the theater with us. Go see the movie!

Thank you for your childhood
